Norwell Declares Tier 4 Water Restrictions Amid Summer Drought

The town's water supply situation has reached a critical threshold, with Norwell now under Tier 4 water restrictions — the most stringent level in the state's framework — following a declaration posted by the town on June 17.

TOWN HALL

Tier 4 water restrictions are now in effect for Norwell residents, representing the highest level of mandatory conservation measures under the Massachusetts Water Management Act framework. The town posted the restriction notice June 17; the declaration carries through the current dry period and affects all water customers. At Tier 4, outdoor water use is typically banned or severely curtailed, and residents should contact the Water Department at 93 Longwater Circle or through the town's website for specifics on permitted uses and any exemption procedures.

Separately, the town's Advisory Board has open vacancies and is asking interested residents to apply by June 29. The Advisory Board plays a key role in reviewing the municipal budget each year, and the deadline is less than a week away.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Norwell Public Library has launched a new Device Lending Program, making four Dell Pro 14 laptops available for in-library use and seven Dell Latitude touch-screen laptops available for take-home checkout. Residents can call the library or stop by the main desk at 64 South Street to learn more.

The library also recently received a technology grant worth more than $35,000 through a state program — the funding that appears to have supported the new device lending initiative. Additionally, the library has noted that due to budgetary cuts, seasonal Sunday hours have been eliminated for the current fiscal year; the June newsletter on the library's website has full details on the FY26 budget impacts.
