Norwell Library Launches Device Lending Program Fueled by $35,000 State Grant

The Norwell Public Library is rolling out a new device lending program backed by a state technology grant worth more than $35,000, giving residents a new way to borrow laptops for in-library and at-home use — even as budget pressures force the elimination of seasonal Sunday hours.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The library announced it has received a technology grant valued at over $35,000 through a state program, and the equipment is already on the shelves. Four Dell Pro 14 laptops are now available for in-library use, and seven Dell Latitude touch-screen laptops are available for take-home checkout. Residents can call the library or stop by the main desk to learn more about borrowing a device.

The good news on the grant side comes alongside a harder budget reality: due to cuts to the library's FY26 budget, seasonal Sunday hours have been permanently suspended. The library has posted a full breakdown of expected budget impacts on its website for residents who want details. The June Newsletter is also available online and covers the latest from the library.

TOWN HALL

The town's Advisory Board has open seats, and the deadline to apply is June 29. Residents interested in serving should submit applications through Town Hall at 93 Longwater Circle. The board plays a key role in reviewing the town's annual budget and capital requests.

Conservation officials are continuing to keep Jacobs Island closed to public access. That restriction has been in effect since late April; no reopening date has been announced.
